U know whats almost as stupid as Kira. The fact that "Gundam" refers to the operating system and not the mobile suit. Just by copying the OS into a piece of junk it becomes a gundam! |

Thats exactly the point. The strike daggers had a modified gundam OS and they still were'nt classed as gundams. The Astray frames are classed as gundams but they dont have phase shift armour. It seems that the only MS that are called gundams are the ones piloted by a bunch of idiot kids. The Akatsuki can match the strike freedom for abilities but it not a gundam. My point is that they never gave a definitive reason why an MS is called a gundam. |

actually akatsuki is classified as a gundam,but that's only in model kits because it's just a prototype mobile suit in the show.the show makes it look like a side mobile suit no one cares about.if Zaft had the Akatsuki,kira would be slaughtered since his rainbow beams won't have any affect on akatsuki's Yata no Kagami. Is there even a series where "gundam" is well defined? (besides 0078, obviously) Gundam Mk II is a gundam of course, the "upgrade" of rx-78-2 But why is the zeta a gundam? Why isnt the hyaku shiki a gundam, but the Delta Gundam is? |

They are called gundams in wing because of gundamium, and in G Gundam a mobile suit built for the tournament is called a gundam. In 00 a gundam is a one of a kind MS that uses a GN drive. The gadessa/garazzo dont count because they were more of a mass production suit. Throughout most of U.C gundams are built for the federation by either anaheim or the federation themselves. An alloy called gundarmium (different from wings gundamium) is used on alot of gundam types. One of the main features of a gundam in U.C is the gundam type head, derived from the RX-78's head. Another is that they are prototypes for future mass production types and are extremely powerful compared to what came before them, most of their tech is'nt passed on the mass production because of costs. One reason the hyaku shiki is'nt called a gundam is because it is the failed delta gundam prototype. Its movable frame was'nt strong enough so it was used to test the anti-beam coating and because it failed its purpose it was'nt called a gundam. The delta plus is'nt called a gundam either because its an upgrade of the hyaku shiki. Thats what i know anyway. Edited by ZR0, Nov 15 2009, 08:23 PM.

For 00, I read somewhere that GN, stands for Gundam Nucleus, hence why they are called Gundams. In any series, the term Gundam probably refers to suits that have v-fins, which is the easiest ways to tell them apart from other suits. |
